Underdog Fantasy review

Underdog Fantasy skips the salary cap entirely. Its headline products are Pick’em — choosing whether players go higher or lower than a projected stat line — and Best Ball, a season-long draft format where your optimal lineup is set automatically each week. The app is fast and the drafts are genuinely fun.

Best for: Players who prefer quick pick’em entries or season-long Best Ball drafts over salary-cap optimisation.

Pros

  • No salary cap — fast, simple pick’em entries
  • Best Ball is a standout season-long format
  • Polished drafting experience

Cons

  • Paid pick’em is restricted or unavailable in several states
  • Standard pick’em busts entirely on a single missed leg

Contest types

Pick’em (Higher/Lower)

Choose whether two to five players will go over or under their projected stat lines. More correct legs means a bigger multiplier; one miss can bust the entry on standard plays.

Best Ball

Draft a deep roster before the season; each week your highest-scoring eligible players are auto-started, so there is no waivers, trades, or weekly lineup setting. Advance through playoff rounds toward a final.

Daily drafts (snake)

Fast same-day or weekend snake drafts against a small group, scored over a short slate. A lower-commitment cousin of Best Ball.

Rivals

Head-to-head player-vs-player matchups where you pick which of two players outperforms the other on a given stat.

How scoring & rosters work

  • Pick’em entries are graded against Underdog’s projected lines: pick the right side (higher or lower) on every leg to win, with payouts scaling by the number of correct picks.
  • Best Ball requires no in-season management — the platform automatically starts your optimal lineup each week, so roster construction and draft value are the entire skill.
  • There is no salary cap on any product; value comes from reading projections in Pick’em and from draft strategy in Best Ball.

Mobile app: Underdog’s app is purpose-built for drafting and pick’em, with one of the smoothest draft interfaces in the category and quick entry into pick’em slips.

Welcome offer

Deposit match up to $1,000

New users get a first-deposit match in bonus cash, plus a special first-entry offer on Pick’em. Bonus cash applies toward entry fees as you play.

18+ (varies by state). New users only. Deposit match released as bonus cash; play-through applies.

Getting started

  1. Confirm Underdog’s paid contests are available in your state and you meet the minimum age.
  2. Sign up and deposit to claim the first-deposit match.
  3. Try a small two- or three-pick Pick’em entry, or join a Best Ball draft if you prefer season-long play.
  4. For Pick’em, focus on lines you have a strong read on rather than maximising the number of legs.

Legality

Underdog operates Pick’em and Best Ball widely, but several states have restricted or banned paid “against-the-house” pick’em. Where paid contests are blocked, Underdog may offer Best Ball, peer-to-peer formats, or nothing.

Underdog Fantasy FAQ

What is Best Ball on Underdog?
Best Ball is a season-long draft format with no in-season management. You draft a deep roster, and each week the platform automatically starts your highest-scoring eligible players. All of the skill is in the draft itself.
How does Underdog Pick’em work?
You choose whether each of two to five players will go higher or lower than their projected stat line. Getting every leg right wins the entry, with the payout multiplier rising as you add more correct picks.
Is Underdog Pick’em legal in my state?
It depends. Several states have restricted or prohibited paid pick’em contests that are graded against the house. Underdog limits or changes its product in those states, so confirm what is available where you live before depositing.
Is Underdog gambling or fantasy?
Underdog positions its contests as fantasy games of skill, but the legal treatment of paid pick’em varies by state, and some regulators classify it closer to sports betting. The distinction is exactly what determines availability.
